The Lamar Bruni Vergara Education Center, which provides life skills education to victims of domestic abuse, opened on September 28, 2004. The building was constructed with help from an $850,000 grant from the Lamar Bruni Vergara Charitable Trust and furnished by funds raised from local individual and corporate sponsors. Classes offered include:
- Pre-GED classes
- GED training
- Computer skills
- Culinary arts
- Cosmetology
- Sewing
- Aerobics
- English as a second language classes.
In 2006, over 1,100 women learned computer skills and over 2,200 studied English as a second language. In May 2008, 117 women graduated from the education center, joining the more than 1,200 women who have graduated since the center opened.
