On December 5, Mercy Ministries of Laredo opened Mercy Family Recreation Center. The recreation center is an outdoor activity area where mothers and children can safely relax, exercise and enjoy being with their families. It includes a walking track, picnic area and a covered, lit pavilion for basketball. The center was built at the suggestion of former and current Casa de Misericordia residents, constructed by services donated by a local architect and contractor, and financed by contributions from local foundations and the women themselves.
