The Sisters of Mercy held their Institute Chapter meeting in Laredo, Texas, from June 20 – 30. This meeting brought together delegates from North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Guam and the Philippines to elect new leadership and develop strategies to better serve persons suffering from poverty, lack of education and insufficient healthcare. One of the activities offered as part of this meeting was a solidarity experience and public witness event in which the sisters visited the colonia at San Carlos, the first colonia served by Laredo ’s outreach programs eleven years ago. Representatives from other colonias also were present and joined the sisters in their expression of solidarity with those who are economically poor. Below are photos from this event.
