Mercy Ministries of Laredo Opens Dental Clinic

On March 2, Mercy Ministries of Laredo opened a new dental clinic for uninsured adults residing in Webb County and adjacent colonias, low-income unincorporated communities along the U.S.-Mexico International Boundary. It offers basic services including cleanings, fillings and simple dental extractions. The clinic also will work with the University of Texas Health Science Center to coordinate educational opportunities for their dental students.

The clinic was created at the suggestion of local residents and spearheaded by Dr. Carmen Rathmell, Dr. Manuel Gonzalez and members of the Laredo Dental Society, who saw a need for dental care underinsured, economically disadvantaged adults in the area who often put the dental care of their children before their own. Monetary and equipment donations and grant monies helped fund and furnish the clinic, which is staffed by volunteer dentists.
