The Fernando A. Salinas Charitable Foundation made a pledge of $25,000 to Mercy Ministries of Laredo for elderly healthcare services at an announcement hosted at the Salinas residence on Tuesday.
Javier B. Santos, trustee for the Salinas Trust on behalf of Fernando Salinas, said “The trust is proud to help the Sisters of Mercy with the healthcare services they provide to Laredo’s underserved.”
“Both Mr. Salinas and I are well-acquainted with the special needs of the elderly having cared for aging family members ourselves,” he added.
The Fernando A. Salinas Charitable Foundation was founded in 2005 to benefit Laredo and Webb County. Salinas, known widely as “Chito,” was a downtown merchant at Don Antonio’s for over 50 years. He founded the charitable foundation to honor and his parents Antonio and Maria Salinas, his sister Beatriz “Tische” Salinas Benavides, and her husband Roberto Benavides.
“We are deeply honored by this gift,” said Mercy Ministries CEO Sister Maria Luisa Vera, “our elderly patients need special care when facing life-threatening conditions and chronic disease. This gift will enable us to respond to the needs of unfunded and underfunded elderly patients.”
Present at the announcement were Sister Maria Luisa Vera, Mercy Ministries CEO, Judith G. Gutierrez Mercy Ministries Board President, Sister Olivia Obregon, Elizabeth Casso CFO, and Gloria Canseco Director of Advancement.
