Maria “Nena” Arambula has spent a total of 10 years working with the Sisters of Mercy, the last seven at Casa de Misericordia as the shelter administrator and grants manager.
As shelter administrator, she supervises the day to day operations of the shelter ensuring positive and effective relationships among staff, residents, students and volunteers. She also provides crisis intervention, counseling and intakes including an orientation about shelter life and services.
Nena explains the Sisters of Mercy influenced her by making her aware of the community’s needs and modeling service.
“Here I have found the opportunity not only to be a better member of my community, but also to be one that gets involved,” said Nena. “The most fulfilling part of my job is not only helping women break the cycle of violence, but walking side by side with them as they do it.” |
